COONLEY COMMUNITY

Become involved in Coonley's Community
Coonley School is fortunate to have the support of a wide range of sources, from its teachers, alumni and parents, to the neighborhood business community and our local government representatives. All of these groups contribute something that helps make Coonley a special place for its students.

Several groups are organized to coordinate this support.

Local School Council: An elected body composed of parents, neighbors, teachers and administrators with budgetary and principal selection responsibilities. Council members serve two-year terms.

Parent Teacher Organization: The PTO is a group of volunteers planning events and programs that raise money for the school.

Friends of Coonley: The FOC is another fund raising group run by volunteers. Coonley’s principal works with FOC to help set annual monetary goals and direct funds to school initiatives.

Coonley Core Supporters are local businesses that have proved to be good friends of the school, whether through donated services or financial donations.

Coonley Alumni: Students who passed through Coonley's halls during its 120 year history keep in touch on social network sites like Facebook and the CPS alumni network.
Volunteer!
Coonley encourages parents and community volunteers. We have many programs that could not succeed without the help of our dedicated volunteers.

We are seeking volunteers for the following projects:
  • Classroom helpers
  • Junior Achievement teachers
  • Arts programming
  • Library cataloging
  • Sports programming and coaching
  • Web design and computer assistance
Volunteers are required to complete the appropriate Chicago Board of Education forms. These forms may be picked up in the office. If you are interested in volunteering, please call 773-534-5140 and speak with Mr. Laslo or Mr. Zurawski.
