GoCPS Updates

As the application period for the 2021-2022 school year continues, we wanted to take a moment to remind you of some important information regarding the GoCPS process.

Activate Your Account
In order to apply online, you will need to activate your account, if you have not already done so, or if you don’t already have an account from a previous year. If you do not already have a GoCPS account and you did not receive your Activation Code, CPS families can contact their child’s school counselor, and non-CPS families who registered for the fall 2020 NWEA MAP can contact the Office of Access and Enrollment at 773-553-2060 or gocps@cps.edu.

The activation process is quick and simple; just follow the link below and we’ll show you how.

Activate Account

Admissions Screenings
Some ninth grade programs require applicants to participate in admissions screenings: admissions exams, auditions, essays, information sessions, interviews, or teacher recommendations. Except for the in-person Selective Enrollment admissions exams, admissions screenings are being offered remotely for the 2021-2022 school year. Click the link below for important details regarding the admissions screening experience:

Open Houses
As you may know, Open House events are designed to assist you in identifying CPS schools and programs that are the best fit for your child. This year, due to remote learning, CPS Open House events are being offered virtually.

Please visit the GoCPS calendar to view elementary and high school virtual events by school or by zip code, or reach out directly to schools for Open House dates and times. Events are posted to the GoCPS calendar as they are submitted by schools to our office.

Eligibility Requirements
Many high school programs have minimum eligibility requirements that students must meet in order to apply. Each program also has a selection process that determines how seats are filled. The Elementary and High School Guide provides a comprehensive listing of each high school program, the minimum eligibility requirements (if applicable) and the selection process. This is a great resource for planning which programs to select and rank. If you haven’t already, check out the Elementary and High School Guide using the links below.

Winter 2020 NWEA MAP
Information regarding the winter 2020 NWEA MAP will be shared with families and schools once it is available.

Selective Enrollment High Schools Exam
If you are applying to Selective Enrollment High Schools, you can schedule your child’s admissions exam after you submit your application. Additional testing seats will be added when current capacity fills up. Please note that there is no guarantee which sites will offer additional seats.

CPS ID Request Deadline Approaching
If you have a non-CPS student applying to a high school/program without academic criteria, you will need to enter a CPS Student ID number in order to apply online. The deadline to apply for a CPS ID is Friday, November 23, 2020. If the ID is not requested by this date, you will still be able to submit a paper application.

To request a CPS ID, please complete the CPS ID Request Form.

(If your non-CPS student is applying to programs with academic criteria, you need an Activation Code to apply online. Contact the Office of Access and Enrollment at 773-553-2060 if you have not received your child’s Activation Code.)

GoCPS Application Deadline
The deadline to apply for the 2021-2022 school year is Friday, December 11, 2020. Online applications must be submitted by 11:59 pm CST and paper applications must be received by 6:00 pm CST.

Web Browsers
As a helpful reminder, GoCPS is optimized for viewing on Chrome and Safari. For the best possible application experience, we recommend using one of these browsers to access the site.
Need Help?
If you have any questions about the application process, contact the Office of Access and Enrollment at 773-553-2060 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, or email gocps@cps.edu.

Best Regards,

Updates on the Admissions process and Recruitment season at DePaul Prep for Fall 2020:
  • Following health and safety guidelines, Shadow Days will not be offered this school year.
  • Following health and safety guidelines, Open Houses will not be offered this school year.
  • The Entrance Exam* at DePaul College Prep is scheduled for Saturday morning, December 5th. Registration for our Entrance Exam is on Friday, 11/20 at 8am two weeks prior to our Dec 5th test date. The make-up test date will be announced the morning of December 5th.
    • *The proctoring protocol and guidelines for the Entrance Exam are to be determined.
  • 8th grade students who sit for the Entrance Exam at DePaul Prep will be given first preference for admittance into the DePaul Prep Class of 2025. Due to increased interest in DePaul Prep, we had our first admittance waitlist for the 2020-21 freshman class. We highly encourage taking the Entrance Exam at DePaul Prep if DePaul Prep is your first choice school, as we anticipate an admittance waitlist once again for the 2021-22 school year.
  • Changes to the Admissions Application & supporting materials:  Due to the special circumstances and the shift to e-learning mid-year in 2019-20, the Admissions Application will now require the last three years of final grades/report cards (6th/7th/8th grades), and 6th grade (or most recent) standardized test scores, in addition to the discipline report, student's birth certificate, and the online application.
