Principal's Message
Greetings Coonley Parents, Students, and Community Members,
It is with great enthusiasm that I write this message to you all. First off, I would like to extend a very warm thank you to the Coonley Local School Council for offering me the opportunity to become the newest Cougar! Throughout the extensive interview process, I have learned a great deal about the school's values, history, and traditions and have already begun to see why Coonley is an extraordinary place “where kids love to learn”. I cannot wait to see the building bustling full of students on the first day of school, Monday, August 30th. As your principal, I commit to honor Coonley’s history and practices, build upon the school’s many successes and be an advocate for what the community needs. In the coming months, my number one priority is to learn as much as I can about the Coonley community and begin to build positive and constructive relationships to ensure future decision-making is well-informed and built upon the school’s strengths. To the Coonley parents, I want you to know I am here for you as a partner. Growing up, I truly experienced the African Proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child.". As the daughter of a single mother, I observed how she cultivated and invested in relationships in order to surround my brother and me with positive influences throughout our childhood. I truly believe that positive relationships are at the heart of what makes a school extraordinary. As your principal, I commit to developing positive relationships, listening to your needs and further developing family and community partnerships. To the Coonley students, I want to commend you on finishing what was a challenging and unique school year. This summer, I hope you enjoy time with your family and friends, read some of your favorite books and perhaps take a much needed break from computer screens. I cannot wait to meet each of you and hear about all that you love about Coonley as well as your hopes for the school moving forward. I will be planning a series of events to meet each of the important members of the Coonley community over the summer and into the fall. I will be hosting my first parent meeting, Coffee with the Principal, on Wednesday, July 21st 6:00 - 7:00 PM. This meeting will serve as a time for you to get to know me a little bit better as well as for me to begin hearing from you. See this flyer for more information about joining the virtual meeting. I hope to see you there. If you’re not able to attend, the recording will be posted on our website for you to view at your leisure. I am looking forward to meeting and connecting with as many parents, students, and community members as possible in the coming weeks. In the meantime, if you would like to reach out, please feel free to email me at behumphrey1@cps.edu. Warm regards, Ms. Brennen Humphrey |
